Questioned Document Examination and Forensic Lab Techniques - Specialized Training and Continuing Education

Association of Forensic Document Examiners (AFDE) annual training includes: annual symposium training, technical presentations and laboratory research in the following years (1997-2019, 2022):

  • Identification of individual characteristics and pattern recognition techniques in handwriting

  • Questioned Document photography procedures, including photomicrography

  • Indented writing (hidden text)

  • Typewriter, copier, and computer printer identification/classification

  • Infrared Luminescence and UltraViolet lighting techniques

  • Production of demonstrative evidence

  • Courtroom protocols

Instructional technical visits include:

  • Instructional Visit to Scotland Yard, London, UK with Mr. Robert Milne, Latent Image Specialist – October 6, 2011.

  • Invitation to attend and assist in the Workshop “Charred Documents – Collection and Handling” at the Mid-Atlantic Association of Forensic Scientists presented in conjunction with FBI Lab, Quantico, personnel on April 29, 2008 at the Marshall University Forensic Program Crime Scene House.

  • Instructional visit to FBI Lab, Quantico, VA, February 19, 2008.  Mr. Weldon was invited to the FBI Lab to demonstrate innovative paper humidity techniques for the optimization of latent image development.  Mr. Weldon has received a patent on this technical advancement.
